This day marks the death in 1963 of renowned Christian apologist C. S. Lewis. In his work A Grief Observed, Lewis observed how suffering can strengthen faith: “Your bid for God or no God, for a good God or the Cosmic Sadist . . . will not be serious if nothing much is staked on it.
